Farewell to Sovereignty

Photobucket

Maybe its temporarily, maybe its forever, whatever it is - I've left my ship after serving as a technician/engineer on board Sovereignty for the past 2 years.

To me, I may possibly be the luckiest one among my 7 fellow batchboys who went to this squadron together.

I had experienced the least sailing, but possibly done the most duties because the ships I went to, coincidentally reached their maintenance phases that total 10 months out of these 2 years.

Someone asked me how is it like to work in a naval ship. Do I like it there?

I would say that the deciding point can be who and what type of colleagues am I working with and the ever-changing policies, demands and there are confusing standards and methods that had never reached an agreement point. Sometimes its also about the high frequency of times out-at-sea.

And there is this 1 person that irritates the hell out of me almost all the time - enough to make me curse him in my mind whenever I see him. Why so serious?

1. Non-stop gibbering to broadcast his pessimism about the life in Navy and how different it is compared to the outside world.

2. Complained that he worked so hard but nobody appreciates him when he obviously did nothing significant. ( Ask someone from other departments to do his jobs while he took naps)

3. We were taking a break after a major repair on a machinery and he was sitting in the air-con room. He was angry and exclaimed that "You guys just want to watch me die of working loh!" while he attempts to remove a rubber tape that ties 2 ends of a knot together. Even my grandma could do that with ease. (Happens several times if he saw us resting and he is not)

4. Told me he was unhappy because nobody wished him good luck when he went for course or officially welcomed him back when his course finished, and I had received them.

I could go on and on about this guy, how we almost had a fight and that typical selfish kind of people who wants to harvest all the crops but does not sow the seeds at all, and go on to complain that the field is not well-fertilized.

Next week onwards, I'll be posted back to my training camp for the Petty Officer Course, the necessary step to go through before I can up-size my rank to 1st Sergeant. Have to stay-in for nearly 3 months.. F

On the other hand, Ah Bak you are right!
