身边 (Full Draft)

Strolling Chinatown
Bak was walking enthusiastically at 20km/h.
I had a hard time catching up just to get this picture.

Admire her courage to pose like this at the train station.

This was the original picture I requested.
These scribbles are chinese words!
Probably more than 15 years ago that I've been to Chinatown before CNY. The crowds are still there, the air is still filled with the CNY atmosphere but the stalls, are hopeless - most of them.
Streets and streets of stuffs selling the same things
- Taiwan's Muah Chee and 果冻
- Stalls selling manufactured tarts, egg rolls, biscuits, e.t.c
There's more appeal and nicer things you can find in typical fun fairs and Pasar Malams. I had just a vivid memory of Chinatown long ago and I wasn't sure if it's like that when I was younger.
Maybe I'm not aware of the right things or having the right state of mind when I'm there.
The Chinatown I remember
Bought a boatswain pipe from an Indian Shop and got it for $10 ($16 before bargain) because of the fact that the pipe's material is rubbish. It comes in silver mostly, and cost about $20 - $30. It ain't easy to find this kind of sailor's pipe around, and some of my colleagues actually had to order from outside.
A good example of a working pipe. What's different from the one I bought is that the gun's end and the hole is too far apart. I couldn't let it make a sound in the beginning, probably due to the rust inhibitor oil inside. Fish managed to blow it and sound came out eventually.
Not that I know very well but it's still kinda hard to convince people who insist they are right on things and usage that they don't know well. I threw it away after that, anyways, since to me it's not working. I can't blow that hard for 7 - 12 secs. Each mistake will end me up with 1 weekend confinement in my training course.
And it amazes me that Chinatown is selling losers' stuffs like that and with attempts to rack up the prices so much. One malay salesman was even trying to make me buy his magical cream product - It can make your scars and marks on your skin go away with a few rubs each day for a certain period of time!
It smells like indian perfume. It costs only $10 and with this product, there is no need for plastic surgery. There are also some eye-openers despite all that..

佛牙寺
Keith corrected what I was trying to describe the place - Majestic. The interior is grand, huge and really well designed. There are statues of I think thousands of different buddha sitting on the walls and one hundred dragon carvings in the ceiling. It was amazing - I thought temples are supposed to be smokey with incenses and offerings, but it was air-conditioned and modern. The whole place is sure well-maintained and expensive!
??? Plant. I don't know what it is.Chinese New Year, it's the plants that got my interest this year. There are so many varieties with different meanings - I missed them all. Their meanings, their names and their uses, I really need to learn to know these things, or I'll be one of the broken links from the older generations to the next ones.
Chinese New Year, I forget a lot of things already, and yet there are actually so many more things that I can learn about.
Probably there's more to Chinatown that we didn't managed to see that day.

Which is you?
Not knowing the importance of money

Know too much the importance of money

Born rich and remain so

Waiting for people to give more money to you

Stop dwelling in your past achievements,
for they are nothing if you let them stay there.

You were the closest NSF buddy I had back when we were in training camp. I even call you Tweety because of your wider head ratio of your upper head.
I used to take your bike to home and to work - before I had a car. We're almost gone the 2 times where you almost skid when your chain suddenly drop loose on a bend, and the car that E-braked right in front of you.
I used to mock at your funny tattoo called “人心难测" and how it was so irrelevant to the Guan Yin that is standing on a dragon.
You missing front teeth that I always said its like a missing tile from your hand in a game of mahjong and called you "小相公" because of that.
And I remembered the heart to heart talks on how you should take it easier on whichever relationships that's gonna come to you, and my never-ever successful pursues. The 2.4km training runs where we talk and kick each other throughout the run and still achieve passing timing.
I visited you in hospital as soon as I could back from sailing when you flew meters away from your bike accident and saw the hole and the 20 plus stitches on your head. I'd told you I never want to eat the curry chicken available on your funeral.
I was almost in a state of shock and disbelief when a common friend of ours called me in the morning at 8a.m yesterday, the reception was weak at Tuas and I thought that guy was mumbling about someone owing him $50. And to receive a call about your death is utmost unacceptable for me at the moment -
That you jumped from your girlfriend's block 10th floor after a drinking session the previous night. This feeling is different from some friend's friend's cousin's brother death story I've heard due to whatever reason. You are a friend. I'd never expected you'd do such a thing..
Is it the alcohol effect that boost your courage and the quarrel with your girlfriend?
Are you depressed?
It's sad that you died a death not worthy..
It's sad that you were cremated without having a funeral.. because of chinese tradition I heard.
The most sad thing is our last conversation is not a happy one. I called you and screwed you for borrowing money from us to bars and pubs, when I've told you we only lend you for financial needs - and this conversation is half a year ago.

We shall be friends again if there's a next life. Rest in peace.

Part 2 of red cliff kicks off with a match of samba soccer. -_-
The best thing about this whole show is that - You will not get bored or feel draggy in the 2 hours sitting down there, but that again it varies from person to person.
If you had abit of revise on the history of the 3 kingdoms, this battle is a crippling 50 000 men to Cao Cao's 870 000 men! (Some historians believed the actual numbers are about 220 000 only. Did I said only?)
This film will give you the answer and the possible strategy and mind games the defendants used in a rather exxagerating fashion, but somehow the audiences enjoyed!

Adam Sandler is one of my favorite actor - since "50 First Dates" and maybe earlier. The recent "Yes Man" and "Ip Man" seems to dilute the flavor of this film. Sadly, I walked out of the cinema feeling rather unsatisfied. The twist and fantasy context in the film is not rich enough. The humor is not as laughable as Yes Man.
It will still be worth watching though, since its still Adam Sandler.

Casual Poet

I could only smell the Thai Disco Cherry nearby. This Casual Poet place was well-hidden between 2 shops of steamboat on the 3rd floor... and the interior was....

..filled with random sketches..

...and more randomness...

Surprisingly nice chill out place.
Except for some of the dishes and drinks, taste rather bad.
They say this chicken mayo sandwich is alright. $6.90?
